The Lion King

1994 American animated musical film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures.

Characters

Mufasa

He was the king of the Pride Lands and the father of Simba. Mufasa's envious younger brother, Scar, coveted the throne and orchestrated a plot to kill his sibling—a crime of which Scar was successful. Despite his death, Mufasa endures in the memories of his loved ones. His spirit manifested in clouds and sunlight, which has occasionally appeared to guide his descendants

“One day, Simba, the sun will set on my time here... And will rise to you, as the new king.”

Simba

Shortly after his birth, he was anointed future king and presented to the animals of the Pride Lands in a royal presentation ceremony. As the crown prince, he was raised to respect the Circle of Life by his father, Mufasa, and trained in the ways of an upright monarch.

Mufasa: You have forgotten who you are and so forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place in the Circle of Life.
Simba: How can I go back? I'm not who I used to be.
Mufasa: Remember who you are. You are my son and the one true king.

Scar

As the younger brother of Mufasa and second-born prince of the Pride Lands, Scar was next in line to assume the throne as king. His chances were lost, however, at the arrival of his nephew, Simba. This embittered Scar with jealously and a sense of entitlement, prompting him to develop a regicidal plot to take over the kingdom, with the aid of his hyena henchmen.

Mufasa: "Don't turn your back on me, Scar!"
Scar: "Oh, no, Mufasa. Perhaps you shouldn't turn your back on me."

Rafiki

Rafiki's character often serves as the visual narrator of the story of The Lion King. He is shown to be a dear friend to Mufasa. He presents newborn cubs to all the animals gathered at Pride Rock, and draws a stylized lion cub on the walls of his treehouse home to represent Simba's birth.

“You follow 'ol Rafiki, he knows the way!”
